Athletics fest growing every year
OVER 1200 enthusiastic school children representing over 40 schools from across the county are expected to converge on the IT Sligo Athletics Track on Friday 22nd September for the Annual Super Valu Primary Schools Athletics Festival, an initiative of Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership. This event is now in its fourteenth year and is firmly established on the primary school sports calendar as one of the highlight events of the year.
The popularity of the event continues to grow each year and this can be attributed to an emphasis on fun, enjoyment and the fact that schools encourage children of all athletic ability to take part. The event is supported by Super Valu while County Sligo Athletics Association will be on hand to oversee the running of what will hopefully be a great day of athletics for children.
Further details of the event are available from Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership at 071 9161511 or at www.sligosportandrecreation.ie.

He reached the edge the box, fizzed the ball across the goal mouth which resulted in an own goal.
The midfield battle was intensifying as Valley pressed for an equaliser. However, Boyle Celtic goalkeeper Shane O’Dowd was in inspired form and was found hard to beat.
O’Dowd pulled off several great saves to keep the score 0-1 to Celtic at the break.
The second half was only five minutes old when Celtic scored their second.
Centre back Cormac Regan cleared a searching Valley ball.
