Liven up your home with colourful accessories

-

THE accessories you choose to complement your home furnishings can personalise your space and bring it to life. Check out these tips from Castle Davitt Furniture for adding colour, texture and dimension to your home!

Accessorising a room is like accessorising an outfit. Liven your room up with colour by introducing accessories. They are a great way to introduce bold colours that you love, but might not want to feature, or commit to long-term, in your room Add a rug, some cushions or a statement lamp in a bold colour to give your room an instant facelift.

Combine pictures or mirrors of assorted sizes to create a focal point on a bare wall. This is a simple way of adding colour and variety to your room without overpowering the space. Before hammering nails in the wall, arrange the pieces on the floor and find your favourite combination.

Place mirrors so that they reflect something beautiful. Turn an ordinary space from dull to “designer” with a rug that features a fashionable motif, pattern or splash of colour. Rugs can define a seating arrangement in a large room by creating an intimate and inviting space.

Consider seasonal accessories for like Christmas, to keep your room looking updated and fresh. Change your floral arrangements to reflect the season, or lighten up your accessories as the weather gets warmer. We often find that people veer towards rich reds, burnt orange tones and gold in autumn and winter, and change to pale pastels and duck egg colours for spring and summer.

However you decide to brighten up your room this Christmas, Castle Davitt Furniture has the answer. With Christmas around the corner and a huge amount of new accessories arriving daily why not drop into us. KIDS are heading back to school all over the country, and while you may be focusing on new shoes & school bags and keeping them out of trouble, it’s also important not to overlook safety and security at your home. For Peace of Mind make your home security a priority on your back to school checklist.

Keep your children and/or child minders safe with our 7 Simple Steps to help keep your home secure:

1. Teach children and child minders to lock the door and not open it for anyone: Children should know how to lock all doors correctly. Teach them that they should never open the door while home alone, even for deliveries or mail. Instead, they should speak with visitors through the front door without opening it and never let anyone know they are home alone.

2. Use an alarm or CCTV system with remote alerts: If you don’t have one already, consider getting an alarm system that will alert you to when kids have arrived home safely and used their code to deactivate the alarm. You’ ll also get alerts any time there’s a problem so you can respond quickly. A CCTV Camera system which you can check on your phone can help to monitor activities and visitors to your home. Some systems features include automated locks and notifications, so the kids simply walk up to the front door, open it, and close it behind them. You’ ll then be notified and the lock will engage once the door is shut.

3. Show children and child minders how to use the alarm system: Make sure children know how to properly use the alarm system, both arming and disarming it. You should also show them how to hit the panic button and what to do if there’s an emergency. If possible, allow them to hear individual alarms including the burglar, smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide alarms so that they can easily recognise them if activated and know how to react.

4. Review social media and Internet usage at home and at school: Create social media agreements and outline appropriate usage. Warn them about the dangers of making new friends online and help them avoid cyber bullying.

5. Make an emergency plan for fire: Work on an emergency plan together and determine how your child will exit in case there’s a fire. Show your child how to effectively use a fire extinguisher.

6. Teach children and child minders not to go inside the house if there are signs of a break in: The last thing you want your kids to do is walk in on a burglar. If the door is open, broken or they see a shattered window, they should not go into the house and instead get help from a neighbour, call you or return to school to find a teacher.

7. Keep communication open: Ask your child to text or call when they get home each day. Encourage them to call you if there are any problems so you can help to resolve any issues that may arise.

With these simple steps, you’ ll learn how to teach the people who are most important to you how to be safe before, during, and after school, even in a situation when they are home alone.
