GUITAR WORLD
The Hawk’s Well Theatre continues its Guitar World series with the next date set for Sunday the 17 th of September. This acoustic guitar night will feature Canadian guitar virtuoso Don Alder, stellar jazz guitarist Mike Nielsen and Mallorcan-born Felip Carbonell.
Don Alder won several international guitar competitions and in 2016 he was nominated again for two Canadian Music Awards. His music is a unique combination of deeply textured melody and story. Lyrical and compelling, his original songs are notes of exploration – some passionate and haunting, some hard-driven, others light and teasing.
Mostly known as one of the members of Sligo band No Crows, Mallorcan-born Felip Carbonell has been songwriting and composing music since his early teens. Two years after the release of his first solo double album, The Colours of Time, and for this rare performance, Felip will showcase the unusual aspect of his career as a solo guitarist.
Equally innovative on acoustic and electric guitars, Mike Nielsen has gained a reputation as one of the leading guitarists in European jazz. The initiator and coordinator of the Masters in Jazz Performance Degree programme at the Dublin Institute of Technology, Mike was awarded a Licentiate of Trinity College, London (LTCL) in classical guitar performance; received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, Boston and holds an MPhil in microtonal music and physics. He is a prolific composer within the genre of contemporary jazz and microtonal music and features on 18 recordings.
