Rovers appeal for support ahead of Derry game

-

Sligo Rovers chairman Martin Heraghty and manager Gerard Lyttle are appealing to Sligo public to come out in huge numbers for next Saturday’s final home league game of the season.

The Bit O’ Red need two wins from two games to secure their Premier Division status next season. In recent weeks a total of over 1,200 Rovers fans have travelled to three away games while over 2,000 were present for the 1-0 home win over Bohemians.

Chairman Martin Heraghty said: “After two months without a home game, we had a good response to the supporter suggestion of leaving season tickets at home for the final two home games of the season.

“It enabled us to get to this point and it would be great if it was possible for this Saturday. There are still difficulties for the club with that two months of no league games and we’re working through them.

“Just as vital is to make The Showgrounds come alive on Saturday. It was a huge help to the team against Bohs and it would be absolutely brilliant to get 2,500 in for final home game. We’ll be making a big push for that in the coming days.

“The team are battling for every point and this is the stage where anyone and everyone with that love for Sligo Rovers is there with us on Saturday to get behind the team. Sligo needs you to give our players and Gerard all the backing we can possibly give them.”

Lyttle added: “It’s not a token line to say the support we’ve had in these four away games have played a big part.

“It’s remarkable really. We’ve asked the players to leave everything out there in the last few weeks. Have no regrets and muster every bit of effort they have in them to keep this club up.

“It would be brilliant to add even more backing to that Saturday night.

“We want to get the best out of ourselves and ask for that final big lift for the lads.”

Kick-off for the game against Derry City is 7:45pm in The Showgrounds Tickets are available at turnstiles
