Drivers fined and banned

A number of drivers were fined and banned at Sligo District Court for various motoring offences.

Geraldine McCarthy (61) of 73 Doorly Park was fined €100 and banned from driving for two years for drunk driving at Cleveragh Drive on December 22nd 2016.

Inspector Paul Kilcoyne said a sample from the defendant showed a reading of 51mgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath.

Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor (defending) pleaded that the defendant had a lot of difficulti­es.

Keith Smylie of St Joseph’s Terrace was fined €200 and banned from driving for one year from January 5 th next for not having insurance when stopped at Heather View.

He told the court he had commercial insurance but this didn’t cover his driving of his sister’s car that night. He was brining her home he told Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor (defending).

Smylie was also fined €150 for holding a mobile phone while driving at Pearse Road on January 10 th last.

At the same court, Patsy Herrity of St Anne’s Terrace was fined €80 for holding a mobile phone while driving at Pearse Road on January 19 th.

A fine of €120 was imposed on Gary Cullen, 57 Caltragh Heights for holding a mobile phone while driving at Pearse Road on January 31st.

Patrick Murrin, 40 Glendallon was fined €100 for not wearing a safety belt at the Clarion Road on February 22nd.

Lisa Gordon, 5 Seaview Park, Cliffoney was fined €200 for not having insurance at Bundoran Road on February 3rd.

Mr Tom macSharry, solicitor (defending pleaded that the defendant’s policy was cancelled as a direct debit wasn’t paid when she fell on hard times. She was insured now.

Louise Marshall, 107 St Brigid’s Place was fined €300 and banned from driving for one year for not having insurance at Lake Isle Road on January 31st last.

Liga Gevele, 108 Rusheen Ard, Caltragh was fined €300 and banned from driving for one year for not having insurance at Caltragh roundabout on March 10 th.

Rory Heron, 15 Rosewood Court, Maugherabo­y was fined €100 and banned from driving for one year for not having insurance at Abbey Street on February 18th.

Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor (defending) pleaded that the defendant had given a lift to his mother to collect her pension.
