Project aims to foster the creativity of locals

Pulled, Sligo’s first community-based screen printing and design studio are running a crowdfunding campaign through the popular site Fund

It and a table quiz to raise money to improve their studio facilities.

The project was started by Daniel Guest, Edel Doherty and Mark Willis in 2016 and it aims to provide a fully equipped professional printmaking facility for designers and artists working in textile and paper and also to provide off-site workshops to schools and community groups in the region.

Pulled are seeking the support for improvements through online crowdfunding, whereby in exchange for a donation, the funder receives a reward.

Pulled have teamed up with a number of Sligo’s and the north-west’s noted designers and artists to create unique and an exclusive set of screen printed accessories.

The collaborators include illustrator Annie West, artist Lorna Watkins, illustrator Gary Reddin and product designer Ashleigh Smith of The Atlantic Equipment Project.

Funders can choose from items such as postcards, art prints, t-shirts and tote bags.

In addition to these, Pulled themselves are offering further incentives with discounted 1-2-1 workshops and merchandise deals.

The group are seeking to raise a total of €4000 for the upgrading of professional equipment which will enable the development of their studio into a high quality learning environment.

Daniel Guest, co-founder and printer says they want to see their facility being used to promote sustainable printing practices and to create a resource for the whole community.

“One of our ultimate goals is to create a resource that the local community can use to develop and foster their own creativity.

“We want to see our studio being used to produce exciting works in our home in the north west and promote sustainable and ethical printing practices in our region.

“Additionally, we are looking to purchase portable print equipment, which will enable us to run print classes/workshops in schools, colleges, community centres and festival settings.

“This in turn will allow us to reach rural communities,” he added.

The campaign which is currently live on the fundit.ie website runs until the 3 November and has already been backed locally and nationally by stakeholders, clients and friends.

Pulled will only receive the funding pledged if their target is reached and therefore appeal to the goodwill of the Sligo community to help them realise their goal and fund their project.

The campaign will culminate with a table quiz and unveiling of a selection of the rewards at Tricky’s McGarrigles, O’Connell Street Sligo tomorrow evening ( Wednesday 1st of November) at 7pm.

Entry to the quiz is €20 for a table of 4 and there will also be a raffle draw on the night.

At the time of writing, the project had raised €615, with 16 funders so far giving generously to the project. Pulled are hoping that local people will support their endeavours.
