-

A Tubbercurry woman has pleaded guilty to 29 Road Traffic Offences last year.

Cliona Ward (32) of Parklands Crescent, Tubbercurry, pleaded guilty to the offences when she was brought before Tubbercurry District Court last Wednesday on foot of a bench warrant.

Ward failed to appear before Judge Kevin Kilrane at an earlier court hearing.

Her defence solicitor Mr Tom MacSharry told Judge Kilrane last week that Ward was in England at the time because her cousin was tragically murdered there.

He said Ward was pleading guilty to all 29 charges. Ward was charged with driving without insurance, an excessively worn tyre, no certificate of Road Worthiness and with giving a false name and date of birth to Gardaí at Milltown, Co Galway on February 3rd 2016.

She was charged with offences including no insurance, not having a child restrained properly, no driver’s licence or tax at Town Parks, Tuam on May 9 th 2016.

On August 13th 2016, Ward was again chargedwith driving without insurance, a licence or having a child properly restrained at Cloonkeevy, Ballymote.

In October 10 th 2016 Ward was once again charged with driving without insurance, a licence or road tax at Quarryfield, Ballymote.

Mr MacSharry pointed out that Ward had a provisional driver’s licence. “She always did have insurance but she’s fallen on hard times. She’s a single mother of two children. Her husband was taken from her in very tragic circumstances. She appreciates that she’s facing jail but she’s very remorseful,” he told the court.

Judge Kilrane agreed Ward was “certainly facing jail” but remanded her on continuing bail to January 24 th for a Probation Report to be carried out to see about Community Service.
