CONDITIONS were dry with a slight breeze for the 16,000 runners participating in the 38th Dublin City Marathon, the fourth largest event of its kind in Europe.

Merrion Square signified the end of the gruelling 26.25 mile run as the tired and aching runners proudly sprinted, jogged, walked and staggered across the welcoming finish line.

Kenya’s Bernard Rotich won the men’s race in 2:15:52 while the women’s winner was Ukraine’s Natalia Lehonkova who crossed the line in 2:28:57. Freddie Sittuk of Raheny Shamrocks, a former Warriors Race winner, won the National Championships in 2:16:05 while Mourne Runners’ Laura Graham was the female winner in 2: 39:06.
