ST MOLAISE GAELS
A long football season came to a thrilling conclusion at Markievicz Park on Sunday last as our U16 Boys secured the A Championship title with a well deserved 1-12 to 1-08 victory over Eastern Harps. It was a fantastic team performance for the side managed by Ownie Coyle, Blair Foley and Eugene Gillen. The teams were level 0-06 to 1-03 at the interval with James Heraghty at full forward contributing a number of fine points. In the second half Gaels really showed their qualities with every Player contributing hugely. Oisín Sheridan and Joe Keaney at centrefield took control of this sector of the pitch and gave their colleagues in the forward lines plenty of possession. A goal from Jack Davitt in the 50th minute proved the crucial score and despite Eastern Harps best efforts it was Gaels captain Ethan Watters who received the Cup. Well done to the entire Panel and Management Team on this success which added to similar championship wins at U14 level as well as our U11 Boys winning their competition shows the hard work going at at Bord na nOg level within the Club

BALLYMOTE
HANDBALL: Club member Cormac Finn travelled to Newport Handball Club recently to take part in The Liam Burke Memorial Tournament. Cormac competed in the boys under 13.He won the event when he defeated Stephen Kelly Claregalway Handball club in the final, a wonderful achievement for the young Ballymote Handballer who played all matches over the one week end. Juvenile training continues every Friday evening at the local court commencing at 6.00 pm.
Connacht finalists Ballymote played Lahardane last Sunday in MacHale Park and unfortunately this game would be our last in the Championship series.
Ballymote were 8 points down 10 minutes to go and showed great resolve to claw back and reduce this to 4 points in the final minutes with a great goal from Niall Brennan and point from Niall Colsh. This was not our day and Laharadane went on to win the game. Final score Laherdane 1-15 Ballymote 3-5.. It brought the end of a great year for Ballymote something we are very proud of and will build on for the future. Gerry Monahan and Joe Brennan managed this team and lead them to make history for our club something the supporters, sponsors and committee are grateful for. Back to club business AGM will be 25th November 8pm in Ballymote Community Health Centre.
TOURLESTRANE
WHEN we thought the only highlight of the weekend was to be Mary Conway’s appearance on the Late Late show, our U21s gave us another reason to celebrate with a very sweet victory over Easkey/ Enniscrone in 80 minutes of a most entertaining game . The two teams fought to the bitter end in a game where in the early stages they swapped leads but at the half time whistle Tourlestrane led by 2/5 to 8 points with goals by Mark Lundy and the skipper Rian Kennedy. In the second half Easkey/Enniscrone seemed more organised scoring more than the home team (1/5) but keeper Adam Broe still denied the visitors more than once and this added to some well taken points by both Tourlestrane’s Liam Gaughan and Conan Marren kept us to just a point behind in the dying minutes of the game . A free awarded to Tourlestrane kicked over by Kennedy left the teams level at the full time whistle. Extra time loomed and the teams went to reorganise themselves for the next vital 20 minutes. Conan Marren kicked the first point of the ‘new game’ but Easkey/Enniscrone looked like it was going their way with a goal opportunity hit the net and at the end of the first 10 it rested at Easkey 2/15 to the home’s 2/14. The final 10 minutes with the supporters for both sides cheering loudly Sean Mc Veigh caught a high ball passing it off and finding the sharp shooter Liam Gaughan who sent it crashing to the net to leave us 2 points behind in the closing moments . A defensive lapse quickly found the Ball in his hands again and for the second time in 4 minutes Gaughan powered the ball home to rattle the net and win Tourlestrane a place in the final v Tubbercurry. Well done lads and in particular the younger lads who showed with the rest of the team a never say die attitude. Thanks to Easkey/Enniscrone team and management for a great game of football. We wish a speedy recovery to Darren Leonard who had an excellent game but sustained an injury to his hand.
ENNISCRONE/KILGLASS
THE Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey U-21 team suffered a devastating one-point defeat to Tourlestrane after extra time in last Saturday’s pulsating A Championship semi-final. In an absolutely absorbing contest, the sides ended level at 2-10 to 1-13 after 60 minutes, but with two minutes to play in extra time our lads held a 3-18 to 2-16 lead. However, Tourlestrane struck for two goals in the final minute to win out by a point in a remarkable finish. This was a heartbreaking end for the west Sligo boys and a cruel way to see their championship hopes end. Congratulations to Tourlestrane - we wish them every success in the final next weekend. The U-16 Enniscrone-Kilglass/Easkey team claimed the A Championship shield title last Sunday afternoon courtesy of a hardearned one-point win over Tubbercurry/ Cloonacol, 1-15 to 2-11, at Tourlestrane. In a very exciting game, the lads did just enough to claim the silverware. Well done to all the players and management on a great end to the year.
