NEW YEAR’S DAY SWIM

Please support the Charity New Year’s Day Swim and Splash at the Pier, Enniscrone at 2.30 p.m.

This year’s benefactor­s are Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club, Enniscrone Civil Defense, River Moy search and rescue.

CONGRATULA­TIONS DAVID

2017 Sligo County Council Cathaoirle­ach’s Awards in the category of ‘Community-Individual’ was awarded last week to David Tuffy from Enniscrone for his effortless community work. Traditiona­lly, this is one of the most popular categories in the Cathaoirle­ach’s Awards, reflecting the outstandin­g work carried out by many individual­s in the community.

The winning nominee in this category was put forward by Enniscrone Events Committee, describing him as ‘A volunteer like no other’ His commitment to his community is constant.

All of his community work is done in a humble and modest manner, never calling attention to himself, simply getting on with whatever job needs to be done.

TREE LIGHTING

Thank you to all who came to the Enniscrone Tree Lighting Ceremony, especially the Local Fire Brigade, who gave Santa a lift and the church choir. There is 18 trees this year lit throughout the town.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to John and Carmel McManus of Circular Road Sligo, on the death of their son Paul. Sympathy also to his brothers Alan, Shane and Sister Maria. BRIDGE CLUB

Bridge is played weekly in the Diamond Coast Hotel by the Enniscrone Social Bridge club. Bridge will resume on January 10, at the usual time.

WALKING CLUB

On Saturday, December 30, the walk is Birreencor­agh, the level is hard Open Mountain. The time it takes is five hours.

ENNISCRONE-KILGLASS GAA

ABBOTT CUP SUCCESS – Congratula­tions to our intermedia­te team on finishing the year on a positive note after claiming the Abbott Cup last Saturday afternoon in Tourlestra­ne, courtesy of a hard-fought 0-9 to 1-4 win over the home side. In what was the teams first game in three months, they put in a workmanlik­e display to eventually see of a dogged Tourlestra­ne with two points in the closing minutes.

Well done to all of the players on their efforts this year, and a special word of thanks to Bainisteoi­r Pat Darcy and selector Karl Finnerty for their commitment to the team all year. Commiserat­ions to Tourlestra­ne, and thanks to the club for hosting the game and having the pitch in such fine shape for this time of the year.

MARRIED VS SINGLES – We are getting set for another festive cracker next week when we host our annual Married vs Singles match on Wednesday, December 27, at 2.30 p.m. As always, all proceeds raised will go towards charity. This year, we will also have a game between the Enniscrone Gaelic for Mothers and others group before the main event. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day for some Christmas fun. CONGRATULA­TIONS – Congratula­tions to club PRO David Tuffy on receiving the Cathaoirle­ach Community Individual award for his extensive voluntary work for several local groups, including the GAA club. Richly deserved.

COUNTY BOARD – Congratula­tions to Francie Gallagher on his re-election to Sligo County Board as Assistant treasurer at last week’s convention.

BLOTTO DRAW

There was no winner of the €13,600 jackpot when the draw took place in the Ocean Sands, on Saturday night last December 16. Numbers drawn were 8, 21 and 24. €25 winners were Patsy Mullaney, Anthony Coleman, Idle Kerrigan, Emma Dillon, and Derek O’Boyle and Des Clarke. Next draw is on Saturday December 23 in Gilroy’s Bar will be €13,800.
