FIRST FORTNIGHT

The Glens Centre, New Line, Manorhamilton is welcoming the First Fortnight Festival for the first time this January.

First Fortnight is a charity that challenges mental health prejudice through the arts each January since 2009.

On Friday 12 January they’re presenting in partnership with IFI National a film called The Drummer & The Keeper, the story of the unlikely friendship formed between two young men.

Gabriel, a reckless young drummer with bipolar disorder, who revels in rejecting society’s rules and Christopher, a 17 year old with Asperger’s Syndrome, who yearns to fit in.

This heartwarming story shows the strength of the human bond in the face of adversity.

Written and directed by Nick Kelly, whose short film Shoe was shortlisted for an Academy Award, The Drummer & The Keeper, was produced by Kate McColgan for Calico Pictures, with support from the Irish Film Board.

The film stars a collection of talented Irish actors including Dermot Murphy ( Raw), Charlie Kelly (The Secret Scripture, Jadotville), Peter Coonan ( What Richard Did, Love/Hate), Aoibhinn McGinnity (Moone Boy, Love/Hate), Annie Ryan (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off ), Niamh Algar ( Without Name) and introducing Jacob McCarthy.

CHARLIE LANDSBOROUGH

English singer song-writer, Charlie Landsborough comes to the Hawk’s Well Theatre on Saturday the 20 th of January. Generally recognised and categorised as a country singer, country music is only one part of Charlie’s live shows and music catalogue, with his performances blending a great cross-section of anthem, ballads, blues, country, and folk with a strong and often personal lyric content.

This, mixed with his wit and repartee, has led to a winning formula which has made an impact on so many and fans and fellow artists alike.

Winner of ‘Best Songwriter’, ‘Best Song’, ‘Best Male Vocalist’ & ‘International Country Album’, Charlie’s talent and chart-topping records received the ultimate recognition in 2011 when he was inducted into the British Country Music Hall of Fame.
