SOUTH Sligo AC, in conjunction with Sligo Sports Partnership is delighted to launch this year’s Couch to 5K (C25K) programme alongside a 5-10K training group.

Registration for the C25K programme takes place next Thursday, the 11th of January, from 8-9pm in St. Brigid’s Hall Tubbercurry. The training sessions take place from 7-8pm on Thursdays and Sundays and are an ideal to kickstart a fitness filled January.

The first session is beginning on Sunday the 14th of January, thse group is meeting at Tubbercurry Library car park at 7pm. As a result of funding from Sligo Sports Partnership regarding the Healthy Heart initiative, South Sligo AC is running this course at the lower price of €40. Last year a record number of 105 people signed up for the C25k which is a popular event in South Sligo. Over the last 5 years it has become as much a social outing as a training session and the number of people taking part has steadily increased each year, which is a testament to the success of the programme. Each participant is carefully brought through a training programme of 16 sessions which ultimately prepares them to participate in the St Patrick’s Day 5K race, which for many will be their very first 5K. The sessions are lead by 20 volunteers from the South Sligo Athletic Club and without this the programme would not be the success it is. Registration night for Junior, Seniors and families on Tuesday 9th January in St Attracta’s Secondary School hall from 7-8:15pm. All club members must be registered before taking part in training for insurance purposes.
