DUCK RACE RESULTS

The results of the Coolaney United Duck Race held on St Stephen’s Day are as follows: First Prize €250 – Tristan and Alexi Guilfoyle second prize €150 – Olivia McGourty third Prize €100 – Caitriona Forde, Sligo Thanks to all who supported our annual fundraiser for the upkeep and maintenanc­e of Coolaney Community park. Exciting new plans will be unveiled in the next few weeks for the future developmen­t of the community park.

SENIORS ALERT SCHEME

The Seniors Alert Scheme alarm pendants are free and available for people over 65. The objective of the Seniors Alert Scheme (SAS) is to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communitie­s. through the provision of personal monitored alarms to enable older persons, of limited means, to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independen­ce and peace of mind.

Funding is available under the scheme towards the purchase of personal alarm or pendant. Funding is made available by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government. For an applicatio­n form contact Cllr Dara Mulvey 087 6885050.

GOSPEL CHOIR

CARD GAME

The weekly 25 Card Game in Killoran Community Centre continues on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Everyone welcome.

FORÓIGE CLUB

WALKING GROUP

Coolaney Walking Group meets every Tuesday and Friday at the Mill Pharmacy carpark at 8.30 p.m. New members welcome. Just come along on the night.

PLAYGROUP

Playgroup continues in Coolaney Community Centre on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Come along and join other parents and toddlers in a relaxed setting. Surroundin­g areas very welcome to join.

COOLANEY SCOUTS

We are in the process of setting up Beaver Scouts (ages 6-8) and Cub Scouts (ages 9-11) in Coolaney and are looking to see what interest there is for both groups. We are also looking for more leaders and Associate members to help with the weekly groups or fundraisin­g. THE death took place of Catherine Coyle, Island Road, Monasterad­en and formerly of Kill, Tullow, Co. Carlow she was mother of Tom, Kilfree Junction, Gurteen. Sincere sympathy is extended to Tom, Lil and family and to all her family and friends on their bereavemen­t. May she rest in peace.

THE death took place at North West Hospice, Sligo on Sunday, December 31, of Bernie Finn, Rathmadder, Gurteen and formerly of Doon West, Gurteen. A well-liked and unassuming member of the community he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A traditiona­l musician, Bernie played the whistle and pipes at many sessions and had a great interest in listening and playing Irish music.

His remains reposed at Kilgarriff’s Funeral Home Ballaghade­rreen on Monday and were removed to St Patrick’s Church, Gurteen for Mass of the Ressurrect­ion celebrated by parish priest Fr Joe Caulfield Burial took place afterwards in Carrentemp­le Cemetery. He was predecease­d by his sisters Margaret and Mary and survived by his nephew Tommy Deignan, Birmingham, his wife, Lorraine, grandnephe­ws Owen and Luke, cousins, neighbours and many friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.

THE death took place on January 1 at St Francis Hospice, Blanchards­town, Dublin of Concepta (Connie) Scanlon (née Powell) Portmarnoc­k, Dublin, a native of Clonsilla, Gurteen. News of her passing was received with great sorrow in her native community and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Predecease­d by her parents William and Mary and her sister Pauline she is survived by her husband Gerard, sons Gary, Darragh and Cathal, her sisters, Lizzie, Maura, Ethel, Dorothy, Monica, Jacinta and Alacoque, her brothers Pat and Liam, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins extended family and a large circle of friends to whom deepest sympathy is extended. May she rest in peace.

THE death took place recently of John Durkan, Floughena, Doocastle – brother of Mary O’Grady, Clogher Monasterad­en. Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary and her husband Martin and family Geraldine, Micheál, Aidan and Desmond. Sympathy also to John’s wife Mae and son Seán his wife Geraldine and children Luke, Holly and Lauren. May he rest in peace.

Welcomed in the Sacrament of baptism recently in Gurteen Church was Lucy Sofia Redican, daughter of Sinéad (Coleman) and Jude Redican living in Brisbane, Australia.
