45th St Patrick’s Day race is soon

ORGANISERS are busy preparing for the upcoming 45th St Patrick’s Day race in Tubbercurr­y. The event hosted by South Sligo Athletic Club has a 10k and 5k race. Last year record numbers took part in the popular race. There are prizes in numerous categories for both the 10k and 5k and once again large numbers are expected for the race.

Tubbercurr­y Athletic Club was formed in the Winter of 1973, in September of that year Lukie Kilcoyne, his wife Carmel and Annie Killoran came up with the idea of running a Road Race in the town.

The Tubbercurr­y Road Race holds its place on the Athletics calendar for the past 44years and is widely recognised as one of the best events in the North West.

Last year saw over 375 runners take to the streets of Tubbercurr­y. South Sligo Athletic Club are proud to carry the baton and ensure that it remains a success for many years to come.

The St. Patrick’s Day 10K race and a 5K fun run/walk will start at 12midday. You can pre-register on line at coretiming.ie for €15 or register on the 16th March in Killorans Bar and Restaurant from 7-8:30pm or on St Patrick’s Day from 10:30am for €20. Prizes on the day include. 10k prizes 1st, 2nd and 3rd male;1st, 2nd and 3rd female; Over categories x3 male and female. There is also prizes for 10K male team and 10K female team. 5K prizes include 1st, 2nd and 3rd male; 1st, 2nd and 3rd female; 1st Junior male and 1st Junior female. Refreshmen­ts afterwards in Killorans Bar.
