‘A kind hearted person who was passionate about music’

The late Jimmy Loughlin (pictured below) was described as popular, hard-working student by IT Sligo President Dr Brendan McCormack.

Dr. McCormack said: “On behalf of the students and staff of IT Sligo, I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of Jimmy Loughlin who had studied business office administra­tion here at the Institute.

“During his time here, Jimmy was a popular and hard-working student. As is the case with the entire community, we are all devastated by this incident and we will be providing on-campus support for all those who knew Jimmy and who have been impacted by the tragic events.”

Sligo events promotion group, Faint Sligo also paid a touching tribute on Facebook to Mr Loughlin who was a budding DJ.

“We would like to pay tribute to our friend Jimmy Loughlin after receiving what we can only describe as cruel news yesterday.

“Jimmy was a friendly kind hearted person who was also passionate about music and everything that went with it. Every conversati­on always ended up getting me really excited about shows we were working on and acts that were coming. He was definitely the type of person that really reminded you of why it is you do what you do.

“Jimmy was always found up the front at Faint shows. Until not long ago, after getting accustomed to playing music he found himself behind decks in the loft with Darragh McMahon for their first club gig. He would never let you forget how grateful he was because that’s the kind of person Jimmy was.

“Jimmy was a huge support to us, a friend and will be missed sorely at future events but will never be forgotten.
