Sandy returns to Hawk’s Well with Patsy Cline Show

- By JESSICA FARRY

IT’S been 15 years since Sandy Kelly performed at the Hawk’s Well in her home town of Sligo.

This Sunday, she returns with the Patsy Cline 50 th Anniversary Tour.

This wonderful nostalgic show, presented by Sandy Kelly, brings the audience on a trip down memory lane to hear the music and a little insight into the life of one of the greatest female singers that ever lived, Patsy Cline.

This year marks the 25 th anniversary of the first Patsy Cline show that Sandy wrote, produced and starred in. Such was the interest in Sandy’s “Patsy” show that RTE invited her do to a thirteen week TV series in 1991 and each week a segment from her Patsy show was included in her TV series. Subsequently Sandy’s Patsy Cline Show was contracted by a major London production company and became the first and only country music show to have an extended run in the London’s prestigious West End which starred Sandy Kelly and Grand Ole Opry legend, George Hamilton IV. Sadly, George passed away in September 2014.

Gerry Guthrie joins Sandy for the show, and he will be narrating and singing songs.

“I still enjoy it all these years later. I’m friendly with Patsy’s and I always make sure I give it everything,” she told The Sligo Champion.

“I love it. I’m 64 years old. I get to dress up every month and play act.

“There’s comedy and humour on the show, it’s not just about music.

“I’m always touring you know, I love it. I love meeting everybody and all my friends are on the road really.

“It will be nice for me to play in Sligo, it is my home after all.”

Sandy has even started presenting her own show on the country music channel on Sky.

Patsy’s wonderful and powerful voice coupled with classic songs like “Crazy”, “Walking After Midnight”, “Sweet Dreams” etc., have insured her recordings are timeless.

Tickets cost and are available from the Hawk’s Well Theatre Box Office from €25.
