Yeats collection donation received

-

THE Yeats Society Sligo recently received a generous donation of a personal collection of books and pamphlets relating to William Butler Yeats.

Eamonn R Cantwell has spent a lifetime gathering all manner of books about Ireland’s national poet who is buried at Drumcliffe.

His love for Yeats travelled everywhere with him when working as an engineer with the international arm of the Electricity Supply Board.

His private passion for Yeats eventually led him to completing a PhD at Trinity College Dublin after his retirement from the ESB.

The range of books donated by Eamonn covers Yeats’ letters, his interest in Japanese Noh theatre, his relationships with women and his interest in the occult.

It also includes key critical works of Yeats’s great poetry, with many titles published in the US.

The collection was received by the Society’s director Susan O’Keeffe, with Society board members Macolm Hamilton and Nuala Clarke.

To recognise the donation, Eamonn received a life membership of the Society and a silver Yeats Society pin, designed at Sligo’s Cat & the Moon.
