Brothers stole €750 worth of round bale netting from Aclare
TWO brothers were before Tubbercurry District Court for stealing round bale netting from a shed in Aclare on June 7 2017. Inspector Paul Kilcoyne told the court that the brothers in question Jason and Thomas Maughan were seen along with another man in a car with the netting sticking out the car roof.
They were subsequently stopped sand it transpired they had discarded the netting while being pursued. He told Judge Kevin Kilrane that Jason Maughan (18) of Cuilmore, Swinford was in the rear of the car while Thomas Maughan (26) was in the front. There is another case pending regarding the driver of the car. He said Jason Maughan had no previous convictions while Thomas had 16 previous convictions including burglary and criminal damage. Both pleaded guilty. Mr Denis Molloy solicitor defending said he was not aware of the previous convictions involving Thomas Maughan adding it was unfortunate he wasn’t informed.
The judge fined Jason Maughan €300 taking into consideration having no previous convictions and that he was a young man. Regarding Thomas Maughan he said 16 previous convictions were very serious. Judge Kilrane said he would put the case back until April for a Probation Report and told the defendant he may possibly order him to carry our community service but it was not a promise.
