DRASTIC ACTION
A new 3 act comedy written by Tom Tuffy, a member of the Castleconnor Amateur Dramatic Society is set in the fictional village of Rathcashel and promises to have action, laughs, ups & downs and the hint of romance, taking place at Castleconnor Community Centre each evening fromMarch 9-11.
With weekly updates on the events unfolding in “Rathcashel” to be found on the “Castleconnor Amateur Dramatic Society” Facebook page, curiosity amongst the local communities is gaining momentum and a great turnout in support of the all involved is expected on the dates.
Set in the quiet sleep village of Rathcashel in rural Ireland, the local Garda Station is renowned for it’s lack of action, or so it seems!
Visitors to Rathcashel Garda Station are met by a friendly force of Guards who may have “possibly” bent a few rules in their time but of course never broke them!
On the other hand, the few visitors to the station probably bent, twisted and broke most of them.
When word reaches the Sergeant that a visit from a review committee seeking station closures is scheduled, a plan is hatched to ensure they all look busy.
What unfolds are events that even the four Guards couldn’t have foreseen especially when they weren’t even involved in the planning!
Doors open at 7:30pm with curtains up for 8:30pm each evening.
SOMEONE WHO’LL WATCH OVER ME
On Wednesday the 21st and Thursday the 22nd of March, playwright Frank McGuinness’s Someone Who’ ll Watch Over Me comes to the Hawk’s Well Theatre.
Inspired by the abduction of Brian Keenan taken hostage in Lebanon in the 1980s, this play is McGuinness’s hymn to the defiant power of the human spirit and the creative imagination.
The play focuses on the trials and tribulations of an Irishman, an Englishman and an American who are kidnapped and held hostage by unseen Arabs in Lebanon.
These three protagonists have little to unite them beyond being human in the same small space.
Yet somehow, together, they determine to ward off madness and forestall despair. Somewhere lurk their unseen captors yet, in the cell, there are stories of adventure and love, there is song and laughter, and even a surge of writing, cocktail drinking and movie-making.
This production is presented by Decadent Theatre Company and directed by Andrew Flynn.
Following Thursday night’s performance, a chat show will take place in the theatre foyer with Hawk’s Well Theatre Artist in Residence Bob Kelly where the audience can discuss with the actors some of the themes covered in the play.
