Plan to reach out to diaspora
A new strategy is being put together by Sligo County Council to reach out to the Sligo Diaspora.
Members heard from Director of Services Ms Dorothy Clarke that the Council is working with counties Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon on a joint approach to engaging with the diaspora.
Four themes have been identified: Economic Development and Job Creation; Arts, Heritage and Culture; Tourism and Genealogy; Sports and Community. A diaspora questionnaire is open on surveymonkey.com/r/SligoDiaspora for submissions until 16 th March 2018.
The information gathered from that and other research will inform the Council on issues around what the diaspora’s views are, their interests and expectations are.
The findings will be used to shape and draft the strategy and a draft will be present to the County Council in Quarter 2 of 2018.
It’s recognised that diaspora engagement can benefit local and regional development.
