Call to open old Storm drains in Knocknarea area
LANDOWNERS in the Knocknarea area can approach Council engineers with any recommendations or ideas for improving the natural drainage systems there.
Councillor Tom MacSharry urged the Council to talk to the landowners about clearing old storm drains to alleviate flooding at Drinaghan, Scarden, Breeogue, Ransboro and other affected areas in Strandhill.
“It’s quite frightening when you see how close the flooding comes to some homes,” he said. 780mm of rain fell in the North West between July-December 2017, some 250mm higher than the average rainfall for the region (500-520mm).
