Cosgrove and O’Toole receive their Irish caps

-

SLIGO’s Therese Cosgrove and Anne O’Toole were among the 102 former Irish women’s rugby players honoured after Sunday’s Six Nations match with Scotland in Donnybrook.

IRFU President Philip Orr presented 102 international caps to former female players who played in competitive Test fixtures between 1993 and 2006.

Having compiled a list of all those who represented the Ireland Women in World Rugby-approved Test matches, before the IWRFU was integrated with the IRFU, the Union will now cap those who played for Ireland from the first fixture.

The first game took place against Scotland on February 14, 1993, to the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2006.

This was when caps were presented by the IRFU for the first time.

Thérèse from Strandhill was first capped in 1996.

Anne got her first cap in 1999 and with Riverstown’s Aoife McDermott lining out for her country on Sunday too, it was a proud day for Sligo RFC and the support there in Donnybrook.
