DARKNESS INTO LIGHT

Dromore West has been approved as one of the new venues for Pieta House’s annual Darkness Into Light 5km Walk. This will be taking place on Saturday, May 12, commencing at 4.15 a.m. Register by April 4 to take advantage of €5 early bird discount and receive your free 10th anniversar­y t shirt. NIALL’S CHALLENGE

Niall Casey, Ballymeene­y, Dromore West will spend five weeks teaching street children and their families in HOPE education centres in Kolkata, India during the summer.

To raise funds for this worthy cause, on today, Tuesday, March 27, Niall is attempting to climb Croagh Patrick five times in one day. Any donations or support would be greatly appreciate­d. SCÓR SINSIR

Sligo’s Scór Sinsir winners took part in the Connacht Scór Sinsir Finals on Bank Holiday Monday in Culleen Hall, Co.Roscommon. Following on from a very successful County Final Sligo had a strong spread of competitor­s across the discipline­s. Frances Hanley, a long time stalwart of Scór from the St Farnan’s club was announced as winner in the recitation/storytelli­ng competitio­n and will now go on to the all-Ireland Finals in IT Sligo on April 14 at 3 p.m.

FIGHT NIGHT

SPRING FEST 2018.

Dromore West Village Enhancemen­t will be holding ‘Spring Fest 2018’ Easter Weekend, running from Friday, March 31, to Monday, April, two with various events and activities in the community.

On Good Friday, Dromore West Tidy Towns will be hosting a Community Spring Clean in the village. Easter Saturday will see a ‘Biodiversi­ty Day’ taking place in the community centre, where there will be various activities for all people in the community. There will be guests on the day speaking about nature, recycling and waste management and also people are invited to help the members of the Tidy Towns start planting seeds for the coming summer.On Easter Monday, a ‘Little Fairies and Farmers’ Tractor run will take place around the grounds of the community centre followed by a children’s disco for all who take part. Entry €3.

All proceeds from this weekend’s event will go towards Dromore West Tidy Towns to help support their projects.

USED BATTERY COLLECTION

St Patrick’s GAA club have a Tractor/Car used battery collection on Friday, March 30, at Skreen-Dromard Community Centre from 10.30 to midday.

LEAP IN THE DEEP

Easkey ‘ Leap in the DEEP’ fundraiser will take place at Pool Gorm on Easter Sunday at 1 p.m. Please sponsor the brave swimmers who will be leaping into the Atlantic. There will be a special prize this year for the swimmer who collects the most sponsorshi­p money: a full day of Surfing lessons for a family kindly donated by West Coast Surfing School.

EASTER FUN CAMP

An Easter fun camp for chil- dren ages six to 12 years will be held in Dromore West community centre from March 27 to March 29. Free to attend. Contact 096 37444 for details.

LOTTO

There was no winner of the jackpot in the Easkey lotto draw on March 16. Numbers drawn were13 17 18 19. €25 winners: Darelle and Dean, Tracey Lenehan, TJ O’Brien, Celia Rolston and Matt Leonard. Promoters prize: Nellie Browne. Next jackpot €2,000 and the draw will take place at the bingo in the community centre at 8.30 on Friday night.

SAFE PASS COURSE

Social dancing takes place in Skreen-Dromard community centre on Saturday, March 31, from 10 p.m. Music for dancing will be supplied by John Molloy.
