The Sligo Champion

Fine Gael dictatorship

-

Dear Editor,

Is democracy dead in the North West regarding the 8th Amendment?

Our Fine Gael led Government has become nothing short of total dictatorship.

Freedom to express our opinion seems suppressed both locally and nationally.

Locally the posters (almost 60) put up over the weekend in Sligo by the local Pro-Life Group were taken down. This has been reported to the guards.

The Chairperson of the abortion Committee, Senator Catherine Noone arrived late during mass at Knock over Easter and tweeted “Easter mass in Knock Basilica this afternoon with my parents - an octogenarian priest took at least three opportunities to preach to us about abortion - its no wonder people feel disillusioned with the catholic church”

This same chairperson allowed a vote be taken after just three meetings of the hand picked front loaded pro-choice committee without hearing the so called experts (three pro-life and 20 pro-choice).

This chairperson could not find a doctor who was pro-life.

Senator Noone and many within Fine Gael called for a measured and reasoned debate.

A government who went against democracy and accepted the recommendations of 99 hand picked citizens.

No one from Sligo, Leitrim or eight other counties. A pure farce.

It’s not the role of politicians to tell our church leaders what to teach.

Do they expect all of us to lie down and roll over?

Now the true facts. Only nine Fianna Fail TD’s are in favour of repeal. 36 (that is 80%) are voting no.

Only 25 (50%) of the Fine Gael TD’s are voting yes. Two Sinn Fein TD’s voting no and eight Independents.

Not the run away majority the media would have us believe voting for repeal.

Our 5 th Commandment teaches us “Thou shalt not kill”

Saint Pope John Paul 2 said “A Nation that kills its own children is a nation without hope”

Saint Mother Teresa in Knock in 1993 said “Let us make one strong resolution that in this beautiful country of Ireland no child will be unwanted, we will not have abortion. Let us promise Our Lady who loves Ireland so much that we will never allow in this country a single abortion.”

Pope Francis, Our Irish Bishops, Leaders of Other churches have every right to guide their flock.

Let the people hear the truth. We are all equal at the ballot box.

Regards,
