LITTLE CHEFS

Starting on Monday next, April 23, The Avalon Centre is running a six-week Cooking Club for Little Chefs to have fun, get messy, learn a new skill, make new friends and cook lots of tasty food. The programme will run on Monday afternoons 3.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. for children aged 10 to 12 years and on Wednesday afternoons 3.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. for children aged six to nine years. KITE MAKING WORKSHOPS

Join us for eight workshops to learn a whole set of new skills, make new friends, make your own kites, fly them and take them home. Workshops take place every Thursday 3.30 p.m. to 4.45 p.m. commencing April 26 and are suitable for children aged eight years and up. The cost is €24 for eight weeks. PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP

Little Buddies, our parent and toddler group meets on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. to midday. Parents, grandparen­ts and carers are all welcome. There is always a warm welcome with tea, coffee and refreshmen­ts provided. €3 per family.

DROP AND SHOP CLUB

If you would like to do your shopping or run some errands on a Friday afternoon without the kids in tow, then drop them to our movie club. It is suitable for children aged six to 10 years and costs just €3 per child. Limited spaces available so pre-booking is advised but not necessary. BINGO

Bingo continues every Friday night from 9á€=AFp.m. to 11á€=AFp.m. Double books cost €15, single books €10, half books €5 and single sheets €1. There is also a raffle on the night.

SOCIAL DAY CENTRE

Our social day centre provides older adults with improved quality of life through opportunit­ies for socialisin­g and lifelong learning. It also provides them with a place to engage with their peers and promotes inclusion and integratio­n of older people in the life of the community.

The centre also aims to im- prove the mental health and well-being of older adults and to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation. The social day centre runs four days per week, Tuesday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Contact the centre for further details. The programme is funded by the HSE and supported by the Department of Social Protection.

YOUTH CLUBS

Our junior youth clubs meets on Monday and Wednesday from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Senior Youth Club meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

PIPE BAND

Avalon Academy Pipe band’s bagpipe classes have started every Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The minimum age for learners is 10 years and tuition is free. Drumming classes will be starting soon. All learning instrument­s will be provided. Call Paul at 083 3320719 for further details.

BOWLING

The Avalon Centre Bowling Club meets ever Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the centre. Just call in on the day. 11 a.m. with Angel Fitness. PAYG option available.

Join senior exercise classes with Angel Fitness every Monday from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the Benwiskin Centre. Exercises with gym ball, basic aerobics step, exercises with chair and light endurance movement to improve circulator­y system.
