ST. FARNAN’S

A win in the league remains elusive for the intermediate team following a one point defeat by Easkey in Templeboy on Saturday last. The final score was St. Farnan’s 2-9, Easkey 1-13. This game was played in ideal conditions and had all the elements of local rivalry. St. Farnan’s got a good start but the loss of Mark Devaney to a second yellow card halfway through the first half made it difficult for the home side. At half time a single point separated the sides with Easkey leading 0-9 to 1-5. Easkey led by five points with ten minutes to go in the second half and to add to St. Farnan’s worries Greg Feeney was forced off to injury. A late rally brought us to within a point but it was not enough. The sides will meet again next Saturday at 7pm in the Benson Cup. We extend good wishes to Greg Feeney for a speedy recovery from his injury. ON Monday last in dreadful conditions St. Farnan’s/ St. Pat’s under 16 team was defeated by Castleconnor on a score of 6-8 to 4-4. The team play away to Coolera/ Strandhill on Monday week at 7pm. On Tuesday the under 12 team lost to Castleconnor by 21 scores to one. On Tuesday week they play Curry in Templeboy also at 7pm. On Wednesday the under 8/10” s got their first taste of action when they played Ballymote. A very enjoyable evening was had by all. This Wednesday we play Enniscrone /Kilglass in St. Farnan’s Park at 7pm. On Thursday the under 14 team take on local rivals Easkey at 6.30. Please support all our teams.

THE winner of the 50/50 draw was Abbie Sweeney. She wins €185 . Next draw on Sunday, May 6. LADIES - The Junior team made the long trip to Grange to take on St. Molaise Gaels in Round 2 of the league on Sunday morning and came away with a good win. The final score was 6-11 to 4-8 but in truth the game was much closer than this scoreline might suggest and the visitors seemed to be in trouble with just five minutes remaining by which time a ten point lead had been whittled down to just three. However a goal and two points in those closing minutes from Cait O’Reilly along with a goal from Danielle Dunleavy put daylight between the sides again and whilst the last few scores came from the home side it was mere consolation at that stage. The team face a tough assignment on Sunday next when they entertain THE U-14’s were beaten by a much stronger St. Nathy’s outfit on Tuesday last in Bunninaden in their opening league fixture. Their next game will beat home to Geevagh. THE U-16’s will be hoping to make it two wins on the trot when they host Ballisodare on Monday evening.

HAVING overcome the challenges of Shamrock Gaels and Owenmore Gaels in their opening two games the U-12’s continued on their winning ways with a great win over Geevagh during the week. Next up for the side is a trip to Ballisodare.

ST. MARY’S

ST Marys Senior team is on a great league run and remain unbeaten and on top of Division 1 of the Senior league after a 10 point win over neighbours Coolera/Strandhill at Ransboro on Saturday evening. This was a hugely entertaining game played at Championship pace with both sides finishing the game with less players than had started. Coolera got off to the perfect start with a goal and a point but Marys responded to take the lead mid way through the half, only for momentum to switch to the men from Coolera after they scored another goal to lead by a point at halftime. Marys had the further disadvantage of being down to fourteen players. However, Marys started the second period in determined mood and regained control only for Coolera to counter with their third goal to once again hit the front. Marys then found another gear sparked when Stephen Coen blasted to the net and after this the result was never in doubt and the lads pulled away in a dominant final fifteen minutes. Final score in our favour of 3-17 to 3-07. This is our best start in the Senior League for a number of years, with four wins out of four, and well done to all. The Junior side took a major step forward and while losing to Curry by a point on a scoreline of 2-05 to 1-09, it was a solid performance that promises much for the rest of the year. The Championship draws have taken place and our Seniors are grouped with Eastern Harps, Tubbercurry and Coolaney/ Mullinabreena, while the Juniors will face Easkey and Eastern Harps in their Championship group. A depleted Senior Ladies side travelled to Enniscrone to play Eoghan Rua. The home side took full advantage of exceptionally windy conditions to lead by 20 points at half time. A spirited comeback from what looked an impossible situation brought our girls back to a 3 point deficit with 5 minutes to go, only for a missed penalty and a late goal for the opposition to end with a six point loss. Unbelievable effort by all, and a lot of positives to take into their next tie at home against Tourlestrane in 2 weeks time. Our U12 girls are showing tremendous potential and continued their league campaign with a good win over Calry on Thursday. A strong first quarter saw our girls storm into a 7-1 lead. The rest of the game was a much tighter affair but the Marys players kept to the task at hand and eventually ran out winners on a score of 13 - 6. We are delighted on such a good team performance. Next up is a trip to Grange to play St. Molaise Gaels on Friday. Training continues on Saturdays and Tuesdays. The U16 Girls squad enter a critical week which will determine much in their quest for league success. The squad has 2 league games this week, away to Drumcliffe on Monday and home to Calry on Thursday. Both games commence at 7pm and here’s hoping for a positive outcome in both instances. The U9 and U10 boys hosted Molaise Gaels on Wednesday evening last. Both clubs put on an enjoyable games of football for a god attendance in spite of the blustery conditions. The boys performed with great skill and determination and we look forward to hosting Shamrock Gaels this Wednesday evening in Kent Park at 7pm. The U12 lads played St Johns in Division 1, and posted an excellent win by 16 points to 5. In what were extremely difficult conditions, both sides showcased their skills in a highly competitive match. The U16s play Geevagh/St Michael’s in a re-arranged Round 4 of their league in Scarden on Wednesday at 7pm, and then follow with Round 5 on Monday 30th April away to Ballymote/ Bunninaden.

ST. MOLAISE GAELS

OUR Senior men made it two wins from two in the Division I League with an exciting 1-15 to 2-09 win at home to Drumcliffe/Rosses Point on Saturday evening last. A Keelan Watters goal in the 47th minute helped the home side overturn a four point deficit and points from Alan McLoughlin, Daragh Gallagher and substitute Aaron Currid secured a vital two points. Gaels led by 0-07 to 0-03 at the interval but the visitors hit two early second half goals and looked poised for victory before Keelan Watters found himself on the end of a fine team move and although his initial effort hit the post he managed to convert the rebound. In addition to Watters Calum O’Domhnaill continued his impressive recent form in defence while in attack Eoghan McHugh and Daragh Gallagher were prominent. OUR Junior ladies went down to a 6-11 to 4-08 defeat at home to St Farnans in an entertaining encounter while later that day our U16 Boys made it three wins from three fixtures in the Division I League with a good home win against Eastern Harps. ON Wednesday last our Boys U8 and U10 squads gave a good account of themselves in away fixtures against St Mary’s. Thursday evening saw our U12 Girls overcome neighbours Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point on a scoreline of 14 scores to 9. Friday nights action saw our Minor Boys produce a devastating final fifteen minutes to run out 4-15 to 2-06 winners against Tourlestrane. THIS is a little bit different to the soccer version in that we’re using GAA fixtures. Cost is €10. The list of fixtures for 1st round is New York v Leitrim. London v Sligo. Laois v Wexford. Mayo v Galway. Louth v Carlow. Offaly v Wicklow. Donegal v Cavan. So the idea is you pick one team that you think will win from this list. If they win you stay in, if they lose or draw you’re out. You cannot pick that team again for the remainder of the championship. SO the trick is not to pick a team that you think will go far. If you get through to the semi final and the only teams left are teams you’ve already picked then you’re out. Each week a list of fixtures will be posted. To enter contact Jason McDaid on 0857077265. So let’s get entering all you GAA experts.
