Clancy into European semi finals
DEAN Clancy has been boxing sensationally at the European Championships in Bulgaria and is guaranteed a Bronze medal.
The Sligo teenager, who boxes with Ballinacarrow, is a real star in the making.
He is fighting in the semi finals today and if he gets a Gold medal in this tournament he is guaranteed to qualify for the Junior Olympics in Brazil in October.
His dad Jason said it’s been a hectic few days at the championships.
He said: “Dean has fought the last 3 days on the trot with no rests in between days. I don’t understand why as every other boxer had rest days between fights just the luck of the draw.
“It was very tough for him but saying that he out classed every opponent.
“First up was Maksim Pankou from Belarus who he beat 5.0 next it was Murat Ugurlu from Turkey 5.0 and then he fought Patrick Capri from Italy.
“This was a great fight. Dean was tired from the previous two days but showed such heart and put up a great performance to beat the Italian in his own country 4.1 that win now guarantees Dean a bronze medal.
“He now qualified for the world championships in Turkey this August unbelievable stuff from him he has two well earned days rest and he fights Ukraine on Tuesday in the semi finals. If Dean gets gold in this tournament he also qualifies for the Junior Olympics in Brazil this October,” Jason added.
