Emmett O’Connor Cup enters quarter-final stage

THE Emmett O’Connor Memorial Cup is in its quarter final stage as yet another successful season comes to a close in the Sligo Rovers Astro League.

The cup, which is ran in memory of the late Emmett O’Connor who passed away in 2012, is the final competitio­n of the season as teams prepare to break up for the summer months.

There are eight teams left in the competitio­n; Ballymote, Bald Eagles, Cornview, Sally Gardens, Inter Inferno, Bourbon Bar, Forrest Celtic and Foleys Bar.

Next week will see the semi-finals taking centre stage followed by the final the week after, in which Emmett’s family will attend and present the cup to the winning team.

Sligo Rovers would like to thank each and every team for their participat­ion in the 2017/18 season, along with their respective managers and match officials who have officiated since the season began last September.

League Co-ordinator, Shane Crossan said the following: “The astro league continues to grow each year in popularity and I am delighted in which this year’s season has gone.

“There has been seriously competitiv­e games week in week out which is fantastic to see and while this is happening more and more people are visiting The Showground­s each week which can only be positive for the club as a whole”.

Shane added: “On a personal note, I would like to sincerely thank all of the teams for their commitment to the league this season.

“It’s something that I never take for granted and I appreciate the efforts in which each respective team makes in order to participat­e in the league”.

The Sligo Champion will have exclusive coverage of the Cup final which is scheduled to take place the week beginning May 7th.
