GALLAGHER HOUSE 8K

Our annual 8km run, jog/ walk in aid of Gallagher House Services, Tubbercurr­y, will take place from Kilmactigu­e Community Centre (beside playground) on Thursday, April 26, at 7 p.m. Registrati­on will be from 6 p.m. on the day or pre – registrati­on can be made before 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, at 071 9120624 or by calling into Gallagher House Garden Centre. Clock timing on the day. There will be prizes for first, second and third male and female. Refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards in the community centre. Cost per adult is €10. Everyone is welcome and your support will, as always, be greatly appreciate­d.

CYCLE AGAINST SUICIDE

The 2018 event takes place on May 5, leaving St Muirdeach’s College, Ballina and heads to Carrick on Shannon via Lough Talt and Tubbercurr­y stopping off in Tubbercurr­y at St Brigid’s Hall. This will be an opportunit­y for the local community to engage with local and national mental health organisati­ons.

DARKNESS INTO LIGHT

The Darkness into Light Walk takes place from Banada Abbey once again this year on Saturday, May 12, at 4 a.m. Pre-registrati­on takes place at SuperValu Tubbercurr­y next Friday the 27th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday the 28th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

TEXT ALERT

Carrentubb­er/Cloonacool Text Alert are holding a registrati­on night in Cloonacool Community Centre on Wednesday, May 2, at 8 p.m. Registrati­on fee is €20 (which will cover set up cost and maintenanc­e for approximat­ely two years).

The first meeting was held on Tuesday, April 10. This meeting was very well attended and people expressed great interest in setting up the Text Alert Group. A committee was appointed, and the members are John McIntyre, chairperso­n (087 2864380), Michael Armstrong, Vice-chairperso­n (086 8185393), Mary Dunne, treasurer (087 0916999), Tom McGowan, Community Co-ordinator (087 6202270), Martin Gavigan, secretary (086 3885907).

Everyone is very welcome, and your support will, as always, be greatly appreciate­d.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Active retirement activities have resumed for the Spring/ summer session. The weekly Tuesday group meetings in the Health Centre will now be held in the evenings at 8 p.m. with Card games, Flower Arranging, Reflexolog­y, Bealtaine celebratio­n, outings etc on the agenda.

Monthly outings are being arranged and we are looking forward to our week’s trip to North Wales in June. Weekly Bowling and Exercises continue as well as our open ‘Irish hour’ on Thursdays in Teach Laighne at 3 p.m.

Ta alán daoine sa ceanntar atá grá acu do’n Gaeilge – bain usáid as bhur cúpla focail and join us every Thursday for a very enjoyable hour.

Our Book club meets on the last Wednesday on each month – new members are very welcome. Book for this month in Colson Whithead’s ‘ The Undergroun­d Railroad’. Books are supplied courtesy of the local library.

DIGITAL SKILLS

Are you interested in learning how to do basic tasks on the internet? Co-Ordinated by Sligo Leader Partnershi­p Co. Ltd., a 10-hour course will take place over five two-hourly sessions in centres across Co. Sligo, and costs €25 which is payable on registrati­on day.
