St Mary’s leading Division One
ST Mary’s made it five wins from five in the Fureys Coaches Senior Football League Division 1 when they welcomed Tubbercurry to Kent Park in the fifth round of the League on Saturday.
A very entertaining game ensued between 2 well matched sides, and the outcome remained in the balance until the referee blew the final whistle.
The final score was 1-16 to 1-14 in favour of the hosts who narrowly won by two points.
This puts them top of Division 1 with county Champions Tourlestrane in second place with Coolaney/ Mullinabreena third.
The game between St Mary’s and Tubbercurry was all the tighter as neither side could achieve dominance and possession was even throughout.
Paul Kilcoyne continued his good form with an early goal, and this was just enough for Mary’s to stay in front as half time approached. Stephen Coen had to leave through injury and this forced St Marys to switch into a more defensive style of play for the second half. Tubbercurry threw everything at the hosts and things looked shaky for St Mary’s when a last minute free ball crashed into the back of the net. It wasn’t enough though for the South Sligo side as the hosts finished with two points to spare.
In Division 1, St Molaise Gaels are in 4th place, Coolera/Strandhill are 5th, Drumcliffe/Rosses Point are 6th, Shamrock Gaels are 7th, Tubbercurry are 8th, Curry 9th and Eastern Harps 10th.
Calry/St Joseph’s are leading Division 2, with Easky 2nd, Enniscrone/Kilglass 3rd, Geevagh 4th, Bunninadden 5th, Castleconnor 6th, St John’s 7th, St Patrick’s 8th, St Farnan’s 9th and St Michael’s 10th.
Tubbercurry welcome Coolaney/Mullinabreena to Kilcoyne Park on Saturday while St Mary’s go to Grange. Both games are at 7pm.
