Popular Women’s Fit for Life is back

THE Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnershi­p (SSRP) 2018 Supervalu Fit 4 Life Women’s 5K Series, targeting women of all ability levels aged 16 years and over, begins today.

The six event Series is organised by Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnershi­p in conjunctio­n with County Sligo Athletics Board and the local Athletic clubs around the county.

Each individual event in the series will be each hosted on six Tuesday evenings throughout May and June by the various local clubs (Sligo AC, Calry AC, North Sligo AC, South Sligo AC, Tireragh AC and Corran AC).

This years event starts on Tuesday May 15th with Sligo AC hosting the first 5K at Doorly Park. Registrati­on for this event takes place from 6.30pm at the Blue Lagoon with a new flat and fast route starting and finishing near the Doorly Park playground.

Tubbercurr­y provides the location for the second event in the series on Tuesday May 22nd with South Sligo AC playing host whilst Calry AC, the newest club to the series host the third event on May 29th with a new route based around IT Sligo.

The series will take a break for the first week in June to accommodat­e any ladies taking part in the National Women’s mini marathon in Dublin on the June Bank Holiday Monday and will resume in Skreen/ Dromard on Tuesday June 12th hosted by Tireragh AC.

The penultimat­e event in the series on June 19th will see Corran AC hosting their 5K in Ballymote and this year’s Series will conclude on June 26th in Grange with North Sligo AC hosting the final event with awards/refreshmen­ts afterwards.

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnershi­ps Women in Sport Programme is designed to encourage women of all ages and abilities to become more physically active and now the series is one of its flagship Women in Sport initiative­s.

The Series targets females of all fitness levels and will offer participan­ts the opportunit­y to walk, jog or run the 5K distance at each event.

Regardless of ability or current fitness levels, the series enables participan­ts to monitor their progress, with awards also being presented to a number of participan­ts who show the greatest improvemen­t in their progress over the separate events.

A series running vest will be pro- vided to all women who take part in at least four of the six events.

Any women who participat­e in all six events will have their names entered into a draw for a separate prize. Participat­ion in the Series costs €5 per event payable at registrati­on each evening from 6.30pm with all events starting at 7.30 pm sharp.
