SUMMER CAMPS REGISTRATI­ON

Week 3 (July 16 to July 20) for 6-10 year olds of our summer camps is now fully booked. We will be taking names for a cancellati­on list in case any places become available. Meanwhile, registrati­on for the remainder of our 2018 summer camps continues. The cost of the camp is €90 per child.

To secure your place please call to the Main Office upstairs in the Avalon Centre to complete the registrati­on form along with a minimum booking deposit of €20. The remaining balance must be paid two WEEKS before the start of the camp.

Camp dates: Week 1, Junior Camp (6-10 year olds) – July 2 to July 6. Week 2, Senior Camp (1115 year olds) – July 9 to July 13; Week 3, Junior Camp (6-10 year olds) – July 16 to July 20; Week 4, Senior Camp (11-15 year olds) – 23rd to July 27.

BRIGHT MINDS

Bright Minds Preschool and Afterschoo­l is opening this September at the Avalon Centre. The Preschool will operate from 9.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. and the Afterschoo­l from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, September-June. Bright Minds will be providers of the ECCE and Community Childcare Subvention Schemes, offering free Preschool spaces and subsidised Afterschoo­l spaces for eligible families. SENIORS ALERT SCHEME

The Avalon Centre are providers of the Seniors Alert Scheme. The Seniors Alert Scheme provides grant support for the supply of monitored personal alarms in the form of pendants or wrist watches that enable older people to continue to live securely in their homes. The grant covers the cost of the equipment and its installati­on. The first year of mon- itoring is free and will be €60 per year thereafter. Anyone, who is over the age of 65 and wishes to get a personal alarm or anyone seeking more informatio­n on the scheme can contact Donna at 071 9161836 or email donnaharte@theavalonc­entre.ie.

SOCIAL DAY CENTRE

Our social day centre provides older adults with improved quality of life through opportunit­ies for socialisin­g and lifelong learning. It also provides them with a place to engage with their peers and promotes inclusion and integratio­n of older people in the life of the community.

The centre also aims to improve the mental health and well-being of older adults and to combat feelings of loneliness and isolation. The social day centre runs four days per week, Tuesday to Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact the centre for further details. The programme is funded by the HSE and supported by the Department of Social Protection.

POLISH LESSONS

A five-week Polish language course for adults will be starting soon in the Avalon Centre. This is a chance to learn basic words, phrases, pronunciat­ion and grammar. It is also an opportunit­y to explore Polish songs, holidays and culture. Contact Kasia, a qualified Polish teacher based in Sligo, at 087 7111167 for further details.

KITE MAKING WORKSHOPS

Join us for eight workshops to learn a whole set of new skills, make new friends, make your own kites, fly them and take them home. Workshops take place every Thursday 3: 30-4.45 p.m. commencing April 26 and are suitable for children aged eight years and up. The cost is €24 for eight weeks. PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

Little Buddies, our parent and toddler group meets on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. to midday. Parents, grandparen­ts and carers are all welcome. There is always a warm welcome with tea, coffee and refreshmen­ts provided. €3 per family.

DROP AND SHOP CLUB

If you would like to do your shopping or run some errands on a Friday afternoon without the kids in tow, then drop them to our movie club. It is suitable for children aged six to 10 years and costs just €3 per child. Limited spaces available so pre-booking is advised but not necessary. Check out our Facebook page for details of this week’s movie.

BINGO

Bingo continues every Friday night from 9á€=AFp.m. to 11á€=AFp.m. Double books cost €15, single books €10, half books €5 and single sheets €1. There is also a raffle on the night.

YOUTH CLUBS

Our junior youth clubs meets on Monday and Wednesday from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Senior Youth Club meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

PIPE BAND

Bagpipe classes have started every Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The minimum age for learners is 10 years and tuition is free. Drumming classes will be starting soon. All learning instrument­s will be provided. Call Paul at 083 3320719 for further details.

BOWLING

The Avalon Centre Bowling Club meets ever Wednesday from 11á€=AFa.m. to 1á€=AFp.m. at the centre. Just call in on the day. more young people can avail of a week each in the summer camp of their choice. Applicatio­n forms are available from Sr Rita McGarty at 34 Cranmore Drive. Use a separate applicatio­n from for each family member. All applicatio­ns must be living in Cranmore. Closing date is June 1.

YOGA

The next six-week yoga course starts at the Oxfield Centre on Wednesday, May 23, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mats provided. €50 for the course, or €10 pay-as-yougo. Students €5. Booking essential, places limited. Contact Danielle at 087 3631702.
