Bob Kelly, Theatre Artist in Residence at the Hawk’s Well presents his final work-in-progress reading as part of his two-year residency at the theatre on Tuesday 15 th of May at 8pm. Entitled ‘Daywreckers’, It follows Murphy as he prepares to propose to his ex-girlfriend. He’s got an engagement ring from Wehrlys. He’s got a hatchet from Homebase. He’s got the Garda Siochana, the dole office, RTE and the rest of the goblins ranged against him, but that’s nothing new. All he has to do now is get through Sligo town without falling into the Grand Canyon… The Hawk’s Well Theatre’s Artist in Residence scheme offers theatre artists the opportunity to create a yearlong work programme in partnership with venues and local authorities. The current residency programme was designed by Bob in collaboration with the Hawk’s Well and Sligo County Council Arts Service. To date Bob has presented a number of work-in-progress readings at the theatre, including ‘ The Visions’.

Originally a member of Sligo Youth Theatre, Bob studied theatre at the prestigious Ecole de Jacques Lecoq in Paris, graduating in 2010. The recipient of two Arts Council residencies at the Hawk’s Well (2016, 2017), his writing interests range from the historical to the fantastical; in 2015 his stage work was featured in the US publication The Steampunk User’s Manual: An Illustrated Practical and Whimsical Guide to Creating Retro-Futurist Dreams. Bob has performed extensively internationally and in various languages. He has twice worked with the renowned director John Tiffaney (Once: The Musical and Let the Right One In), and on numerous occasions with Blue Raincoat Theatre Company, The Abbey, and many others.

He has directed productions for Blue Raincoat (Beckett’s Footfalls) and for the Hawk’s Well Theatre (The Big Wall). Daywreckers is the final work-in-progress to be presented in Bob Kelly’s residency at The Hawk’s Well. The audience is asked to note that this performance will contain explicit language.
