Curry come out winners in epic final after extra time

-

points, the first coming from Reilly again, ate back into the lead.

The teams exchanged frees either side of a well-struck Joe Spellman point, to leave the half time score 1-7 to 0-9 in favour of Molaise.

The start of the second half was a cagey affair, with both teams wasting possession. The first point of the second half was scored by Red Óg Murphy, who was very accurate from placed balls all day long and his battle with Oisín Sheridan in the middle of the park was thrilling to watch.

A free and then a fantastic run and score from Currid put Gaels 2 points clear. A second yellow for Killian McElroy Foley tilted the balance of the tie once again. Curry went and scored 2 to bring the sides level once more.

An innocuous black card for Molaise didn’t help matters. A great score from Heraghty looked to have won it before Curry broke fast up the pitch to win a free and then upstepped Murphy to send it to extra-time.

From the throw in, Molaise went up the pitch and pointed through Spellman. The teams traded frees once again. Halfway through extra-time the sides could still not be separated. Curry were the team that held their nerve through to the end as they reeled off 3 points in quick succession and for the most part after that kept possession of the football to run out deserving winners in the end by a scoreline of 0-21 to 1-14

Molaise will rue missed opportunities in normal time but will learn from the experience. Impressive for Molaise were Robbie Ryan, Patryk Lukaszewski, who brilliantly kept a clean sheet, with Jack Davitt causing havoc going the other way.

The top performers for the victourious south Sligo side included Luke Fleming, holding up the defence well, Eoghan Sweeney and Alan Reilly the driving force behind the attack and Adam Gallagher at corner forward after coming on.
