Everything still to play for in the Metalman Series finale

ROUND 2 of the Metalman Swim Series took place at Rosses Point on Saturday with conditions very calm and settled allowing the swimmers to set some fast times.

This popular swim series sees athletes from Sligo and other counties around Ireland take part.

The distance had increased from the previous week with the Sprint Swimmers covering 750m,the Middle Distance 1500m and the Long Distance 2.2km.

In the Sprint Distance, local student and lifeguard Evan Kelly was first home, holding off last week’s winner Stephen Burns.

In the ladies, Dympna Kelly recorded an impressive win.

Next up was the middle distance swimmers where Grange’s Ryan O’Sullivan edged out last week’s winner Shane O’Doherty.

Sarah Canny recorded a second win in the ladies category meaning the Mayo local has secured overall first place with a race to spare.

In the long distance race, Sooey’s Declan Martin took an impressive win by over 1.5 minutes.

He was followed by Belfast swimmer Phil Newell and well known local athlete Neil Walton in third.

Roscommon’s Elaine Lally took maximum points again this week in the ladies.

There’s now a break with the final round taking place on the 30th June.

With the final league standings based on swimmers best two results from three, everything is still to play for.

Organisers wish to thank Sligo Civil Defence and Sligo Kayak Club for their assistance.

The final Metalman Swim Series will be taking place on Saturday, June 30th.
