The Sligo Champion

Paddy McCarrick memorial match

-

THE second annual fundraising match in memory of Paddy McCarrick is taking place in Ray MacSharry Park this Saturday.

The popular sports-mad man sadly died after a kayaking accident last year and his family decided to organise a match last year in his memory.

Hundreds of people came out in support of the event with more than €15,000 being raised for charity.

The McCarrick family were delighted with the support for the fundraiser and this Saturday’s match will see The Blue Lagoon and Sligo University Hospital take on each other for bragging rights.

Paddy’s daughter Lisa said plans are in place for Saturday’s fundraiser.

She said it will be starting at 3pm in the Ray MacSharry Park.

“It is the same teams again as last year with the match between The Blue Lagoon and Sligo University Hospital.

“Last year we raised over €15,000. This year we are donating to RNLI, Sligo Cancer Support Centre, Sligo Mountain Rescue and the Friends of Sligo University Hospital.

“It will be donation on entry to the match.

“After the game we will be going back to the Blue Lagoon where there will be prizes including a Man United trip (tickets to match, hotel and flights) and lots more.

“The event promises to be a great night again all in the memory of the main man,” Lisa added.

The Paddy McCarrick memorial match is taking place on Saturday, June 16th in Ray MacSharry Park at 3pm.
