Rural Sligo feeling ‘left out’ of economic lift

-

RURAL Sligo feels left in terms of economic development.

That’s according to Cllr Joe Queenan who tabled a motion calling on Council Chief Executive to report on economic development in rural Sligo, including Grange and all of east, south and west Sligo by September.

Ciarán Hayes said it was not really possible to differentiate between the town and county in terms of economic development and said in all Council plans, the impact is examined solely in the context of the county as a whole.

Cllr Margaret Gormley sup- ported Cllr Queenan: “We feel we’re left out. When you look at what was proposed to us, it was all about Sligo town. What about the rest of the county?”

Cllr Paul Taylor said that while they welcomed the recent jobs announcements, the rural councillors felt more could be done about things such as rural roads.

Cllr Hubert Keaney said south Sligo was getting ¤100m investment on the N4 this year and said the Greenway in south Sligo also had “huge potential.”

Ciarán Hayes said he would reflect on the matter and report back at the October meeting.
