Camino is a big success
MORE THAN A THOUSAND WALKERS TAKE PART IN 36KM CAMINO
OVER 1,000 participants took part in the 36km Sligo Camino Challenge from Dromahair to Coolaney along the Sligo Way on Saturday last.
The feedback from the walkers was extremely positive with many visitors travelling to take part including a woman from Vancouver. The Camino followed the Sligo Way through and was a challenging mixture of tracks, trails, forest paths, finishing with 8km of country lanes around the Annaghmore Estate. Route highlights included:
- Historic 16 th century Creevelea Abbey on the banks of the River Bonet.
- Skirting between Lough Gill and Slish Woods. - Yeats’ Lake Isle of Inishfree.
- Slieve Dhá Éan and the secluded mountain lake of Lough Lumman.
- Ballygawley Lough and Union Wood. The Sligo Camino trek is a trademark of Coolaney Development Company, Co. Sligo and run entirely by volunteers. Pics: Karol Kelly
