Tutors at Summer School

Tutors and musicians teaching and performing at the South Sligo Summer School are of the highest calibre and with many of them having their musical and geographical roots in the North West, the Connacht style of playing and in particular, the South Sligo style, is featured strongly.

Classes are open to all ages and levels of experience and are graded to suit different playing levels. Numbers are kept small and we strongly encourage pre-registration.

Irish Music Concerts

The Monday Night Concert in St. Attracta’s Community School will be a Celebration of Music and Song in the company of the Kearins Family & Friends. Fionnuala, Cian and Caoimhe have between them made a huge contribution to the success of the South Sligo Summer School and to the musical heritage of the area over the years and long may they continue to do so.

The Friday Night Concert, held in the National School, features three packed hours of the very best of traditional music, song and dance provided by our tutors, local and visiting musicians, invariably with a surprise or two thrown in for good measure!

Lectures and Interactive Talks

Colourful lectures on topics of interest to traditional musicians, students at the summer school and all followers of the tradition are presented each afternoon in St. Brigid’s Hall. This year we have an excellent line up of talks in store. The presenters, some local, some visitors, typically provide a good humoured, well informed and researched insight into the people who have contributed to and maintained the strong traditional music culture we are all very proud of.

Irish Music Recitals

Recitals featuring different instruments are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings in the National School. Teachers, students and visiting musicians perform for an appreciative audience.
