ST FARNAN’S LADIES

WELL done to all involved in the St. Farnan’s / St. Pat’s U14 team’s magnificent win over St. Nathy’s in the Group 3 League Final on Monday week last. When the sides met in the opening round of the competition way back in April the south Sligo based girls claimed the spoils with eighteen points to spare and were to remain unbeaten throughout the group stages, meaning our side would have started the final more in hope than in confidence. However the much rejuvenated side, under the management of Tomas Scott, Mark Boland and Christine O’Carroll, took the game to their opponents from the throw-in and were full value for their 6-8 to 3-11 victory. Those involved and their jubilant supporters made their way back to the Flying Horse afterwards for refreshments where Gerry and staff laid on the usual high level of hospitality. The team now have a short rest before the Championship.

TEAM: A.O’Connell, C.O’Carroll, A.Broderick, N.Carney, E.Boland, J.Tempany, J.Scott, M.O’Connell, A.Boland, E.O’Brien, M.Vereker, C.Burns, S.Williams. Subs: J.Murray, K.Walsh, K.Hegarty, L.Rowlette, A.Rowlette, A.Kearins, A.Gallagher, E.Finnegan, M.Munnelly.

THE St. Farnan’s/ St. Pat’s Minor team will compete in the”B” C’ship with their opening game, away against C.T. Gaels, scheduled to take place on Wednesday week next, the 19th. The other teams in the competition are Calry / St. Joseph’s and an amalgamation of the Geevagh and St. Michael’s clubs. CONGRATULATIONS to Geraldine Ruane on celebrating her 21st Birthday recently. Well done to those of our players who took part in the Connacht Fleadh Cheoil on Sunday and good luck to those who have qualified for the All-Ireland Finals.

The under 12 girls got their championship campaign off to a winning start with a hard fought two point victory over St. Mary’s. After a busy week at the club Cul Camp the girls had to put in a huge effort in a match that was end to end from start to finish. To their credit the girls kept the scoreboard ticking over, and with some excellent performances from Áine Harte, Susannah Gilligan, Anna McDaniel, Lisa Kilfeather and Mollie Ronan they emerged victorious by 12-10. They play St. Nathy’s away next Friday. Well done all.

Well done to our u8 and u 10 panels who hosted Drumcliffe Rosses Pt. on Wednesday. Special congratulations to Lauren Forde and Harry Sproule who did particularly well in their first ever match.

Under 10 boys also played Drumcliffe Rosses Pt. in Ransboro on Wednesday. In an evenly fought contest the scoring honours went to Noah Quigley, Charlie Fenton & Briain Cullinan. Micheàl Harte & Killian Corkery were impressive in midfield ably assisted by a defence that included the ev- er-improving Tadhg Henry, Sean Kelly, Hayden O Connor. The goalkeeping duties were shared by Patrick Healy & Sean Mooney. Man of the match award went to Finn McDaniel.

A special mention to Aaron Martyn who re-joined the panel for the first time this year & showed great promise.

Go-Games for our 5-8 year olds finished up Friday evening with fun and games, and the presentation of certificates. Massive thanks to Myra and her team of coaches, and a special word of thanks to the young coaches who helped out. Well done everyone.

Many thanks to Geraldine McGuinn, our Club’s Health and Wellbeing Officer for the fantastic initiative presented to our young members.

She held a very informative 10 min session for each group at our club Cúl Camp in Scarden last week. In the session she detailed the amount of sugar in our cereals and soft drinks.

She also emphasised the importance of eating fruit like apples & bananas and choosing water instead of juices.

It went very well and the children got a chance to ask plenty of questions of Geraldine, who was well informed. Well done Geraldine! Thank you to Lidl who kindly gave apples, bananas, water and cereals.

Our senior hurlers had a comprehensive win over Tubbercurry in the second round of the championship running up a massive 16-36 in the process.

They travel to Enniscrone/ Kilglass on the 22nd to play Western Gaels in Round Three.

Well done to Mark McDaniel, Jamie Walsh, Ben Cawley and Ross Doherty who were part of the Sligo U14 development squads that played Leitrim and Roscommon in a blitz last week.
