Sunshine and fun at cycling festival

-

THE Leitrim Cycling Festival took place recently with an action-packed schedule of events for all ages in the gorgeous sunshine.

It took place in Manorhamilton and Dromahair and offered people lots of fun activities to enjoy.

There was a good turnout throughout the festival with colour, art, bikes, tea, cake, smiles and sunshine the order of the day.

Organisers said the aim of the festival is to celebrate the North Leitrim locality for its wonderful cycling routes, to bring people together to learn about the future of cycling in the area, to build a community that can be involved in developing the area and to have some fun.

The festival included cycling, art, music, food and camping.

The Glens Centre hosted an enjoyable evening of Cycling Adventure Tales with two speakers, adventurer William Bennett and travel writer Mary Russell.

There was also a leisurely cycle, heritage walk, cycling picnic, bicycle tyre printing, music and much more. People took part in a scenic 25km cycle to Dromahair, packing their camping gear to stay in Dromahair town. The following day, The Great Greenway Cycling Circus Carnival was held in Dromahair. There was a Parade of cycles, the unveiling of the ‘Gluais Linn’ Trishaw, Slow Bicycle Race, Circus Fancy Dress and loads more fun for all the family. After the festival, organisers said that it was a brilliant event and thanked everyone for their support.
