FUN RUN/WALK

Despite the dramatic change in the weather on Sunday, July 1, from heatwave to overcast/cool, with a decidedly strong northwesterly wind, a large crowd turned out at 6 p.m. to Newtownmanor Hall, to pay tribute to the memory of Sharon Loughlin and participate in what was, once again, a great, festive, social occasion.

While simultaneously raising funds for a good cause, a large crowd of all ages and abilities ran or walked about ‘The Manor’, uphill and down dale, taking in the sights and enjoying the fresh air; and it definitely was fresh, with a temperature drop of at least 10 degrees from the previous day.

Those of an athletic nature exerted themselves in the pursuit of either the 5K or the 8K Fun Run. Although not officially timed events, it is worth noting that first across the line in the 5K was Keelin McLoughlin, in a time of 21 minutes 26secs; followed closely by 10-year-old Lucas Lyons, in 23 minutes 32secs. In third place was a young Paul Mooney (11 years) in 25 minutes 42secs, followed in fourth place by an amazing seven-year-old, Greg Lyons, in 29 minutes 11secs. In the 8K Sinéad Fowley-Kelly finished first, in 34 minutes 17secs; followed closely by Mark McGourty, in 35 minutes 26secs; Jack Fowley (Jnr) was third, in 37 minutes 15secs; Liam Lyons was fourth, in 37 minutes 25secs; with Eamonn Curneen fifth, in 40 minutes 15secs.

The money raised have yet to be finally totalled, but, as always, full details will be published in due course. At this stage all that needs to be said is a sincere ‘’Thank You’’ to all who participated in and supported the venture in any way whatsoever.
