Funding for Colaiste Muire will improve parking arrangemen­ts

CLÁR funding received last week by Colaiste Muire, Ballymote will assist with the constructi­on of safe access roads and a footpath at the school. Councillor Dara Mulvey said: “As a member of the Board of Management at Colaiste Muire Ballymote, I have been working with the Principal Peter O’Mahony and Sligo County Council since 2015 for the constructi­on of safe access roads and a footpath to school and the creation of car parking/drop-off facilities.

“I want to thank Minister Michael Ring’s department for providing the CLAR funding for these much needed projects. It is expected that the Department of Rural & Community Developmen­t will announce successful measure two and three projects in the coming weeks”, stated Cllr. Mulvey.

The list of projects to receive funding are: Coláiste Muire, Ballymote €49,223 - Constructi­on of access roads and footpath to school and the creation of car parking/drop-off facilities.

Culfadda N.S. €15,750 - Constructi­on of access footpath to improve safety on approach to school

Scoil Muire gan Smál, Curry €33,359 - Improvemen­t of Car Parking Facilities to access school at front - upgrade road markings to approach to school, provision of public lighting Cloghogue N.S. €13,500 - Constructi­on and upgrading of access footpaths next to school, barrier rail and road markings Easkey Community Council €19,800 - Provide pedestrian crossing to improve safety.

Ballymote Councillor Keith Henry also welcomed the news last week.

Cllr Henry said “I’m delighted for the staff and students of the school. I raised this matter in May 2017 at a meeting of the Council and worked with engineerin­g team to try and find a solution.

“Last year an applicatio­n didn’t receive funding but with perseveran­ce it came through this year”

“As a not too distant past student, the parking arrangemen­ts in the morning and evening still are disorganis­ed and this funding should go a long way to improving the situation” Cllr Henry added.
