Dalzell resigns as tempers flare in Bray aftermath

-

Sligo Rovers’ goalkeeping coach Rodney Dalzell resigned from his position yesterday (Monday) in the aftermath of unsavoury scenes at the Carlisle Grounds on Sunday evening.

Following Rovers’ defeat at the hands of basement side Bray Wanderers, Dalzell was involved in a confrontation with angry fans, with Sligo Rovers players, staff and Bray Wanderers officials having to intervene.

In a statement, the club said: “Sligo Rovers regret yesterday’s post-game exchange between a member of our backroom team and some supporters.

“The exchange occurred when passions ran high in the aftermath of the full-time whistle of a disappointing day. We believe our staff care deeply about the club but on this occasion it was not construed in a fitting manner.”
