ST PADRE PIO’S MITTEN IN SLIGO

You are invited to St Anne’s Church, Cranmore Road, on Monday, July 23, at 7.30 p.m. for a special night of prayer and healing through the intercessi­on of St Padre Pio. His mitten will be brought to the parish as a focus for prayer, and each person will have an opportunit­y to pray before this relic. Please bring along a family member or friend to this very special night. This night is supported by ACN Ireland – Aid to the church in Need.

NORTH WEST HOSPICE REQUIRES VOLUNTEERS

North West Hospice is appealing for volunteers to help support their new charity shop in the centre of Sligo town. Volunteers are required for a variety of roles including: frontof-house, customer service, sorting of clothes and goods and labelling of items. BALLYGAWLE­Y CELTIC AGM

The AGM of Ballygawle­y Celtic will be held this Thursday, July 26, at 9 p.m. in Ballintogh­er Hall. The club had a record number of entries in the Sligo Leitrim youth league last year and hope to improve further on this for the coming year. The club is currently looking for some new volunteers to help with younger ages groups from under-eight to under-11 and under-12 girls. The next few years will see the opening of the new pitch and clubhouse facilities for which major sports capital grants were obtained. This is a very exciting time for the club and new members are always welcome.

CANCER SOCIETY COLLECTION

The recent church gate collection on behalf of the Irish Cancer Society yielded €414.32. The society wishes to thank sincerely all who contribute­d. between the hours of 11 a.m. till 5 p.m.

BOYLE OPEN ART EXHIBITION

Showing the diverse and exciting styles and mediums of art, Sculpture Submission. Exhibition­s standard continuall­y grows to attract entries from all over Ireland. The extremely popular and well attended Art Exhibition aims to provide a forum for artist to display their talent. The work is selected on merit and entries selected from parttime and full-time and occasional artists giving a unique blend and standard of excellence. Open night will be Thursday, July 19, at 9 p.m. and will open daily from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. till July 27.

BOYLE GOLF CLUB FIXTURE

The biggest event of the year for the male golfers of the club is almost upon us with the Captain’s Prize for 2018 taking place on Sunday, July 29. The format will be an 18 hole Strokeplay earlier in the day, with the best scorers qualifying for a nine hole play-off later that evening. It is the highlight of many peoples golfing year to ‘make the cut’ and qualify for the play-off, but to win the Captain’s Prize itself is considered a career highlight.

This year’s captain is Tyrone exile and Tulsk resident Terry Canning, who has been a loyal club member for several years, making his mark on several levels including as an inter-club player and captain, as a volunteer on works on the course and most recently as committee member and club captain. Online booking for this competitio­n is essential.

POTTERY CAMP AT ARDCARNE GARDEN CENTRE.

Hullabaloo Pottery Camp will take place this July in Ardcarne Garden Centre. The dates are July 30 till August 2 from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. Learn lots of different skills and techniques when you are painting and decorating your pottery. You will have your very own designer kiln-fired pot stand, mug, plate, bowl and piggy bank. Make fabulous personalis­ed presents for family and friends, if you can bear to give them away. ROCK THE CLOCK PLANNING CONTINUES.

The organisers of August’s ‘Rock the Clock’ festival in Boyle have had to cancel the planned ‘ Lip Sync Battle’ due to insufficie­nt entries. Work is continuing weekly on organising a great line up for the much anticipate­d August bank Holiday weekend festival. Among those performing will be the Legends, who will play live outside the Moylurg from 9.30 p.m. on Friday, August 3. The organisers would like to thank those who did sign up for the Lip Sync and ‘ who knows, we might do it again later in the year’.

BOYLE TENNIS CLUB

Boyle Community Tennis are competing in the Connacht League Division 3. It has been many years since Boyle have played any competitiv­e tennis and great to see the community club getting back into full swing. Pictured are the Boyle Tennis Team, who competed in Sligo Tennis Club recently. The next match is away to Manorhamil­ton with Boyle hosting a home match against Ballina in September. Boyle Community Tennis are always looking for new players and offer membership at extremely reasonable rates. So if you played a long time ago or would like to learn and get some exercise in a fun environmen­t please let us know. Monday nights from 7 p.m. or Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. open to all – just come along. JUNIOR GOLF IN BOYLE

Junior golf continues on Wednesdays at Boyle Golf Club and will commence at 6 p.m.

All children eight years of age or older and interested in learning the basics of the game are welcome. All equipment will be provided.

BOYLE SUMMER SHOW 2018.

The Summer Show 2018 will be held again this year, at the Boyle GAA Training Grounds, located at the Warren, the town side of Drumderrig Nursing Home. The location is ideally situated close to the town, on level ground and sheltered from the elements. One of the biggest highlights this year is hosting ‘the all-Ireland Champion Spaniel’ competitio­n for the second time.

The Dog Show will be under canvas, so come rain or shine, the dogs will look fantastic. Pony clubs from the region will also be competing for the best pony club accolade, showcasing their expertise in jumping, with all the popular attraction­s and competitio­ns, more than 40 stalls and fun for all the family.

BOYLE ATHLETIC CLUB

At a well-attended meeting it was decided to form Boyle AC (Boyle Athletic Club) to cater for the growing number of people of all ages interested in the various athletic discipline­s. It was decided the club follow establishe­d guidelines and seek approval from the county board as well as membership of the national governing body. Decisions were made on a working committee, club colours and a club logo.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING CRAFT FAIR.

A health and Wellbeing Craft Fair will be held in Boyle in September. The fair will take place in the Spool Factory Event Centre on Sunday, September 9, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is open to all complement­ary therapists, crafters, soap makers, crystals etc. If you are unsure if your craft is suitable please message Lucy below. The next meeting of the Curlew Walkers will be Sunday, September 9, meeting on Crescent, Boyle, at 10 a.m. and will leave for Leean and Doons.
