Phil in a quick ‘dart’ to Sligo!

LEGENDARY darts player Phil Taylor will be putting in an appearance in Gurteen next month at The Hill Hotel in the village.

Widely regarded as the greatest Darts player of all time, Phil will show off his impressive skills in an exhibition and even play with a few lucky local dart players at the event. The 16 times world champion retired from professional darts earlier this year. His visit to the village of Gurteen has been greeted with surprise and excitement by locals.

Hotel Manager Gerry McGovern says: “It’s a great coup for the hotel here and there will be a fabulous atmosphere on the night. There is huge interest in this at the moment.”

It’s not the first time the venue has played host to a well known sports personality.

Controversial Boxer Mike Tyson also dropped in to meet and greet locals on a visit to Sligo in 2006. The former world heavyweight boxing champion paid a private visit to Gurteen to visit old friends, Michael and Marion Kane, who at the time were the proprietors of the Kane’s Hill Hotel in Gurteen.

Phil ‘ The Power’ Taylor will be making his debut visit to Sligo on September 21st.
