McGee inspires St. Farnan’s to victory over St. Michael’s

THIS game was played in perfect conditions in Kent Park on Saturday last in front of a large crowd of spectators.

St. Michael’s were first on the scoreboard with a fine point from Kyle Carty.

Iarla O’Connor got one back for St. Farnan’s followed by three unanswered points from Ciaran O’Connor.

St. Michael’s levelled matters with a point from Sean Clerkin and two from the hard working Ross Mc Loughlin.

St. Farnan’s got the first goal of the game from Ciaran O’Connor and then dominated play to lead 1-8 to 0-5. James Weir got a terrific point after working the ball from the half back line.

It was St. Michael’s who finished the half strongly with a well taken goal by Ross Mc Loughlin on the stroke of half time.

This followed a point from corner back Gavin Walsh and midfielder Paul Mc Tiernan. At half time St. Farnan’s led by a single point 1-8 to 1-7.

After the break Ross Mc Loughlin levelled the scoring with a point from a free.

St. Farnan’s dominated the scoreline with fine points from play.

Kevin Mc Gee gave a man of the match display in midfield.

James Weir was excellent in the half back line and added a second point to his tally. St. Farnan’s introduced all their subs in this half.

Cillian Harte got a second goal for St. Michael’s to reduce the deficit 2-9 to 1-15.

A red card for substitute Fintan Og Mc Loughlin meant they had to play the final fifteen minutes with fourteen men.

Despite this, St. Michael’s battled to the end but St. Farnan’s finished well with substitute Stephen Mulligan hitting the net just before the final whistle. St. Farnan’s were worthy winners but they were made to work for this victory.

St. Michael’s had very good performanc­es from a number of players including Gavin Walsh, Paul Mc Tiernan, Ryan Walsh and Ross Mc Loughlin.

St. Farnan’s had eight players on the score sheet , a superb performanc­e from Kevin Mc Gee and James Weir amogst others and all the substituti­ons worked well.
