Successful year for kickboxers comes to an end with break
THE local kickboxing club have taken their yearly break for the month of August with the satisfaction of having trained through a hotter summer than usual and achieving all their goals, in terms of new grading belts, and on the matt or in the ring.
Congratulations are extended to all on their achievements of getting on the national team, such as Nora Walsh (Dromahair), Ryan Mc Elroy, Michael Jinks,Billy Dolan Geary, Niall Mc Dermott (Sligo). Their continued development as elite athletes will continue at KBI camps and squad training through the summer.
The club camps, which were held in the dojo in St. SJoseph’s Church hall from July 16th to 20th and July 23rd to 27th were held for their 8th year in succession this year and are a great opportunity for learning and sharing of knowledge.
The club gradings which happened at the end of the camp were on the 30th of July and had the additional pleasant surprise of having guest instructor Anthony Fallon (1st Degree)who is based in New York sitting on the grading panel and presenting belts to the young people.
Anthony trained with the club from a young age and achieved his black belt in 2008 before emigrating to the USA, but continued his friendship with the club.
The club will re-open on the week of the 3rd of September for regular members and new beginners , and have set their next goal as a ring show in the Clayton Hotel on the 9th of November.
This will be an opportunity to see some of these fighters in action.
