Autumn music for all tastes at Hawk’s Well

THE Hawk’s Well Theatre boasts a wonderfull­y exciting line up of music events scheduled for this Autumn, catering for all ages and tastes.

Traditiona­l and roots music fans have much to look forward to. The much lauded Sligo-based band, NoCrows kick off the season, performing with special guests Lisa Lambe and Martin Tourish on Sunday, September 2nd whilst Grammy nominated, Nashville singer-songwriter, Gretchen Peters performs at the theatre on Saturday the 8th as she tours her new album, Dancing with the Beast. Singer, songwriter and musician, Collette Sheerin launches her second solo album, Watershed Hours

Saturday, September 22nd when she will be joined by cellist Anna Houston and guitarist Shane McGowan along with other very special guests.

More Grammy nominees grace the stage on Sunday, September 23rd when Irish-American tour-de-force, Cherish the Ladies return to perform work from their brand new album, ‘Heart of the Home’. A giant of the trad and folk traditions - whose fiddle playing has been at the forefront of traditiona­l music since the 1970’s - Kevin Burke will return to Sligo on Saturday, September 29 th. Accomplish­ed trad musicians, Seamus Begley, Oisin Mac Diarmada and Samantha Harvey perform together on Thursday, October 11 th and Nollaig Casey and Arty McGlynn will be joined by bodhran master John Joe Kelly on Sunday, November 18th. Further trad and folk highlights include Ralph McTell who visits on Sunday, November 4 th and Seamie O’Dowd who performs a rare solo gig on Saturday, October 13th.

The 21st Kieran Quinn Theme Night, titled Duets takes place on Sept 26 th and 27 th and Kieran returns to the stage again, joined by Niamh Crowley and special guest Michael Rooney on Saturday, October 20 th. The theatre will stage its inaugural Sligo Pops concert, A Night at the Movies, on Sunday, December 2nd, featuring music from the all-time favourite film scores and the theatre’s second instalment of the their Tradroque series takes place on Friday, December 28th - focusing on the cross-over of Irish traditiona­l and Baroque music.

Other highlights include a gig by David Kitt who comes to the theatre on Sunday, September 16 th and Sligo band, Indian will perform from their new studio album, Balloon in a Net in November.

Sligo Live will see the theatre hosting gigs by Lisa Hannigan, Saint Sister and Rhiannon Giddens and opera lovers will be delighted to hear that Irish National Opera’s production of The Tales of Hoffmann will come to the theatre in October. A fun night of song and story-telling awaits when Tea Dance by Little John Nee & The Tea Dance Triode comes to town on Wednesday, October 17 th.

Fans of the music of yesteryear will enjoy Oh What a Night: A Celebratio­n of Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons on Sunday, October 7 th and The Everly Brothers Experience on Saturday, November 17 th and finally, the tenth anniversar­y of Ronan Collins’ smash hit show Reeling in the Showband Years will kick off the new year on Tuesday the 1st of January.

Culture Night music events on Friday the 21st of September include Lullabies from Around the World for babies; Sligo Songbirds Singalong led by Cathy Jordan and a performanc­e by Sligo Youth Voices.

Communal singing events include the Hawk’s Well Community Choir which starts up again in October, the theatre’s popular Sligo Sings annual performanc­e which takes place on Saturday, November 24 th and Sing for the hell of it! A Rock n’ Roll Christmas on Tuesday the 27 th of November.
