Mikel Murfi returns to New York with his lauded plays

HIS play detailing many of Sligo’s beloved characters has enthralled audiences for sometime and now Mikel Murfi’s sequel to the iconic The Man in the Woman’s Shoes is being staged in New York.

Actor, writer and director Murfi, who grew up in Sligo town will be on stage in the Irish Centre as his sequel I Hear You and Rejoice comes to life in its US premiere and the brilliant The Man in the Woman’s Shoes is also back by popular demand.

In both plays, Murfi creates the characters of a bustling Irish town and its hinterland, capturing their vibrancy through snapshots of its two most disparate residents: the bashful, solitary cobbler, Pat Farnon, and the indomitable football manager and woman-abouttown, Kitsy Rainey.

Each production stands perfectly on its own but together, they reveal a tender portrait of community.

The Man in the Woman’s Shoes follows the story of Pat Farnon, a cobbler who lives in a cottage outside the town.

As he walks the five miles into town he meets some fascinating people who Murfi brings splendidly to life.

I Hear You and Rejoice fol- lows Kitsy Rainey, an indomitable football manager and woman-about-town. The plays, both of which have been staged many times in the Hawk’s Well theatre are being performed in the Irish Centre, New York from September 12 th to October 21st.
